How to make systemising easier
Implementing systems that are utilised and work is quite an art, so here are some tips to help make it easier.
Resist your temptations
Resist the urge to start on an area that is not working well. If you do this, you will experience resistance from your staff - no one likes being put on the spot about an area they know is not working well. Plus you are likely to be tackling something fairly complicated - why would you learn a new skill on something hard?
Instead choose an area that is working well. Your team will be more inclined to participate and less input will be required from you. Identify together, why things work well. You will find it will be a natural progression to move on to less effective areas as you and your team's systemising confidence increases. If you do need to encourage your team to tackle a harder area, having some positive examples will be an effective springboard to jump from.
Start small
Pick off a teeny, weeny area. It is much better to choose something very small and have it work, than start a huge project which takes lots of effort and reaps little reward. By picking something small you won't frighten your staff, and it will be even easier to delegate it!
Get the skills
Systemising is a skill. For some reason people think they can do it themselves. Certainly there are some people who are good organisers, or process focussed, but for the majority of us, systemising turns us cold. Learn a practical method and use simple tools to make your systemising effective. Ensure your team have these same skills. Like anything systemising is easier when you have the right tools and know how to use them.
Improve your systemising skills at our next systems training workshop. Or better still gather your team together and we can bring our systems workshop to you.
